News / DPR Announces Schedule for Independence Day

On Independence Day, July 4, 2008, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will open all outdoor pools and four Walk To Learn pools from 12 pm – 6 pm, to allow District residents to enjoy one of the biggest swimming days of the year.

In addition, this year DPR will open four indoor pools on July 4 from 6:30 am – 11 am, to allow residents to enjoy a morning swim.

In observance of the holiday, all other DPR facilities and programs will be closed, including recreation centers, summer camps, and spray parks.

The following indoor pools will be open on July 4:

* DC Center for Therapeutic Recreation Aquatic Facility, 3030 G St., SE, (202)645-5708
* Takoma Aquatic Center, 300 Van Buren St., NW, (202) 576-9284
* Turkey Thicket Aquatic Facility, 1100 Michigan Ave., NE, (202) 576-9236
* William H. Rumsey Aquatic Center, 635 North Carolina Ave., SE, (202) 724-4495

The following Walk To Learn pools will be open on July 4:

* Barry Farm, 1223 Sumner Rd., SE
* Happy Hollow, 18th and Kalorama Streets, NW
* Parkview. 639 Otis Pl., NW
* Watkins, 420 12th St., SE
